Sinara Transport Machines Will Supply 30 Trams to Chelyabinsk

Sinara Transport Machines holding (STM, part of Sinara Group) and Regional State Public Institution Transportation Organizer of the Chelyabinsk Region have signed a contract for the supply of 30 trams to the city of Chelyabinsk. The total amount of the contract is 1 billion 59 million rubles. The relevant documents were signed by Anton Zubikhin, General Director of Trading House STM, and Artem Sakdakov, Director of Transportation Organizer of the Chelyabinsk Region, RSPI.

In the framework of the project, STM shall supply 30 partially low-floor trams by the end of 2021. The first ten vehicles are scheduled to be transferred to the customer in September, while the final batch will be supplied by December of this year. The production of light rail public transport will start in May. The warranty service period will be two years or 100 thousand km of the distance traveled. The trams will be manufactured at the production facilities of the Ust-Katav Car Building Plant, which acts as STM strategic contract partner in the segment of urban public transport. About 20% of all trams daily running on the intra-city lines will be replaced in the course of the Chelyabinsk tram fleet modernization project.

“We are happy that our offer was recognized as the best one and that STM is privileged to take part in a large-scale program of the Chelyabinsk tram fleet renovation. The tram is not only one of the most ecofriendly means of transport, but it is also very popular among the citizens. It is essential to make it also the most comfortable one. I am confident that the new modern tram will fulfill this task, and will also help to increase the passenger traffic significantly and relieve the city roads,” said Anton Zubikhin.

“Renovation of rolling stock is an important part of the transport reform implementation. We strive to create comfortable conditions for the movement of city residents. The appearance of 30 modern trams in Chelyabinsk will contribute to that. But we will not stop there. There is still a lot of work and new positive changes ahead,” said Aleksey Nechaev, Minister of Roads and Transport of the Chelyabinsk Region.

The new tram is completed with such options as the availability of special seats for passengers with mobility impairments, including those moving in a wheelchair; an air conditioning system with climate control function to create comfortable travel conditions for passengers and the driver, including the "curtain heater" mode for operation in winter; a scrolling LED display in the cabin; availability of Wi-Fi and USB slots for charging mobile devices.

In addition, each tram will have passenger traffic sensors, video cameras in the car and a video recorder (in the driver's cabin), as well as various interior anti-vandal protection elements. The tram will fully comply with the requirements of passenger safety, which will be taken care for by the functions of blocking the car movement when doors of the passenger compartment are incompletely locked as well as sound and light alarm system while the doors are working. According to the customer wishes, white and green colors will prevail in the tram exterior.
